Case Study: Cathy - Successful Jobseeker
If you are looking for a role that not only matches your skills but also matches your values, then Do Good Jobs is the place to find your new job - just like Cathy did.
Cathy was recently recruited as a Fundraising Information Coordinator for Fundsorter - an organisation that makes a tool which helps charities and community groups in Aotearoa, New Zealand, find and apply for grant funding more easily.
With nine years of experience working for voluntary organisations and also volunteering herself, Cathy is no stranger to the for-purpose sector. And she knew that on Do Good Jobs she’d find the kind of roles that appealed to her.
“Working for these types of organisations gives me a sense of purpose, and I knew when I was looking for roles on Do Good Jobs that those employers and those roles would match that sense of purpose and give me something meaningful to work toward”, she says.
Cathy says she was excited to see the role from Fundsorter, an organisation she’d heard about, listed on Do Good Jobs and a match for her skills.
“I am also a grant writer on a voluntary basis, so I know the pain of applying for grants - trying to understand the funding landscape when you're doing it, you know, as a part-time or volunteer member of the organisation”, she says. “And so when I heard about Fundsorter and saw what they were doing, and they were trying to make everything easier, I was really excited to be part of that mahi.
“I'm learning heaps about the funding landscape in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and also internationally as well, because we have international funds that people can search for and apply for. And I’m learning a lot about AI, which I didn't think I would learn that much about because Fundsorter uses AI to help match and write funding applications for organisations.
Cathy is also enjoying the flexibility of her new role, working one day a week in Wellington and the rest from home, which suits her family situation.
Cathy’s advice to jobseekers - Look for roles that match what matters
“My advice is to look for roles that match what matters to you”, she says. “I think employers find it really important when they're looking at who they're employing, that they care about their mission and their vision and their impact. So it is important that you can align with that as well”.
And her second piece of advice….
“Definitely check out Do Good Jobs, as a starting point for sure!”
