Case Study - FundsorterStudy—Fundsorter

Testimonial of Alanna Irving from Fundsorter

Fundsorter is a tool for charities and community groups in Aotearoa, New Zealand, which helps them find and apply for grant funding. Easy to use for teams of all sizes, from small charities with one person doing all the grant applications to professional grants teams who want to work smarter, Fundsorter makes the process really easy and cuts down the time it takes to finally get funding by about 90%.

Do Good Jobs recently listed a role for Fundsorter when they were looking for a Funding Information Co-ordinator. Although the role was only listed for a short period towards the end of the recruitment timeframe, Do Good Jobs provided a fabulous candidate who was welcomed to the team.

Fundsorter co-founder Alanna Irving says she’s a long-time fan of Do Good Jobs, and advertising on the platform helps Fundsorter reach beyond its networks to find potential candidates.

“I was really impressed with the reach the listing got”, she says. “We were able to get outside of our immediate bubble and immediate networks to find awesome people, including the person that we ended up hiring, who we didn't know before and probably would never have gotten to know if it weren't through Do Good Jobs”.

Values alignment is a key part of Fundsorter’s ethos, and something Do Good Jobs provides more than traditional job boards

Alanna explains that Fundsorter is a really values-driven organisation and it’s important that their team shares those values.

“We're in it to really help the charity and community sector, and so it's really important to us that our team is on the same page with us about putting those values in the centre and really wanting to help the community."

And because of its focus solely on jobs in the for-purpose and impact sector, candidates that come through Do Good Jobs are more strongly value-aligned.

“There's definitely a difference between the candidates you'll get through Do Good Jobs and through a more mainstream sort of job board because of the social impact values angle," Alanna says.

“You're really going to connect through Do Good Jobs to people who care about social impact, who are really looking for that in their careers and thinking about how they can use their working life to make a positive difference in society, and that's exactly the type of person that we're trying to hire”.

Big plans for the future mean more opportunities for jobseekers wanting to make a difference.

Alanna is keen to do more in the social enterprise space and says she’ll definitely use Do Good Jobs in the future.

“I plan to keep building in the social enterprise sector, and so we're gonna have a lot of need to connect with awesome people who really share our positive social impact values and want to put their working hours to good use, to improve society!”, she says.
