Full-Time Vodafone Foundation Community Catalyst

Te Rourou, Vodafone Aotearoa Foundation  Invercargill, Southland $75,000 - $85,000

Job Description

Te Rourou, Vodafone Aotearoa Foundation Community Catalyst

Who we are

Te Rourou, Vodafone Aotearoa Foundation is the charitable arm of Vodafone New Zealand. Established in 2002, we invest in organisations, programmes and ideas that create better outcomes for young people. Our vision is an equitable Aotearoa, where all rangatahi have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. We want all young people to be able to make decisions about their future and live lives they value – we don’t want them to be locked out of opportunity by systems and experiences beyond their control. Our goal is to halve the number of young people experiencing exclusion and disadvantage in New Zealand by 2027 – and we are focusing that work in Invercargill. Over the past 12 months we have been building relationships, conducting research and working to understand what is required to create a step-change in outcomes for rangatahi in Invercargill. Our strategy is focused on four areas of impact: supercharging the sector, building future pathways, supporting Māori aspirations and creating connection. This role is specifically tasked with supercharging the sector by increasing connection, uplifting capacity and capability, identifying opportunities for systemic change, and taking collective action.

Our Vision for this role

The youth sector in Invercargill is vibrant, connected and engaged in collaborative work to support better outcomes for all rangatahi. There is a collective vision for the future, a shared understanding of the changes needed, a roadmap for achieving them and systemic change work underway. Young people and youth workers feel valued, supported and part of important local and national conversations.

Role Purpose

Our research found that, while there is great work going on to support the rangatahi of Invercargill, and passionate, capable people doing it, they often lack the overview of how their mahi intersects and could connect for greater impact.  We heard that the community sector is overworked and under-resourced, driven by competitive funding models, low pay rates and overwhelming need. Community partners recognised that greater collaboration within the existing system may help to overcome many of the identified challenges, and a collective direction of travel could reduce competition and increase collaboration. They saw an active role for Te Rourou as a ‘neutral’ organisation in this space. We have engaged our first Vodafone Foundation Community Catalyst as a direct response to this request. The purpose of this role is to work alongside our first community catalyst to increase the impact of the community sector in Invercargill by creating connections, fostering co-operation and collaboration and strengthening the partnerships between community organisations within Invercargill.  In short, this role’s impact is in building a sector that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Role details

Responsible to the Head of the Vodafone Foundation, you will be working with a small team across the country, and alongside colleagues in the Invercargill office. Ideally this is a full time role, but we are open to flexible working options for the right person. This is a contract position, initially for 12 months with a salary range of $75,000 – $85,000 pro rata depending on experience, and the strong possibility of extension.
