Ōtautahi Tiny Performance Festival –  Christchurch City, Canterbury

Job Description

BACKGROUND
The Ōtautahi Tiny Performance Festival is a platform for emerging and experimental artists to present current and new work to a Christchurch audience. It is aimed at fostering diverse artistic works and practitioners and nurturing audiences for this work.

OBJECTIVES
MAP’s driving vision is to provide professional and audience development for independent artists. Ōtautahi Tiny Performance Festival provides space for our artists to test new ideas, bring work that has toured to other centres, exchange with peers and new audiences. The works will be curated to create an intimate and exciting series of performances over one day.

FESTIVAL DETAILS
The inaugural Ōtautahi Tiny Performance Festival is being held on Saturday 30 November 2019 at CoCA, with performance sessions running from 10am till 12midnight. There are 12 x hour long ticketed sessions and a 2 hour ticketed dance party from 10pm. Dance, installation, performance art, theatre, poetry, and bands will be performing, plus a panel and keynote speaker.

Job Description

Ushers
Answers to the FOH/Venue manager
Set up seating – bean bags, chairs, cushions – for allocated performance session
Check tickets and count audience numbers
Guide audience to performance space
Manage content/trigger warnings for allocated performances
Learn emergency procedures for CoCA, guide/manage audiences in case of emergency
Clean space after allocated performance session
Friendly manner, able to answer questions from festival goers

Availability
The volunteer ushers must be available for a minimum of 2 consecutive performance sessions on the day of the festival. The roster will be managed by the FOH/Venue manager. In addition, all ushers must be available for a health & safety briefing and training session on Friday 29 November at CoCA.

Box Office
Answers to the FOH/Venue manager
Talk to visitors at front desk about the Festival and sessions
Sell tickets at front desk, handle cash and run EFTPOS machine
Friendly manner, able to answer questions from festival goers

Availability
The volunteer box office staff must be available for a minimum of 2 consecutive performance sessions on the day of the festival. The roster will be managed by the FOH/Venue manager. In addition, all volunteers must be available for a health & safety briefing and training session on Friday 29 November at CoCA.

Technical Assistants
Answers to the Lighting Operators
Set up space with props/costumes as required for allocated performance sessions
Rigging lights, plugging in cables, managing loose cabling as required
Assists the Lighting Operators in operating lights and sound for performance sessions
Liaise with the ushers for allocated performance sessions to start performance
Pack down as required after each allocated performance session

Availability
The volunteer technical assistants must be available for a minimum of 2 consecutive performance sessions on the day of the festival. The lighting operators will manage the roster and allocate the volunteers to particular performance works as required. In addition, all technical assistants must be available for a health and safety briefing and training session on Friday 29 November at CoCA.

Social media interns
This is a very exciting opportunity to work with The Social Project, a Christchurch social media agency that specialises in content creation, social media management, strategy and PR campaigns. We are looking for up to 2 interns who can commit to 2 weeks working for The Social Project. Duties would include recording and posting instagram stories, assisting with scheduling timelines, delivering flyers to the centre city, and working alongside the Social Project design team.

Availability
The social media interns must be available for a minimum of 4 hours on the day of the festival, plus 20 hours the week of and the week prior to the festival, hours worked to be negotiated.

Hospitality
Answers to FOH/Venue manager
Works alongside Beer Baroness to operate the bar
Handles sales of wine, cash handling, EFTPOS operation
Glassware cleaning as required

Availability
Volunteers must be available for a minimum of 2 consecutive performance sessions on the day of the festival. The roster will be managed by the FOH/Venue manager. In addition, all volunteers must be available for a health & safety briefing and training session on Friday 29 November at CoCA.

Health & Safety:
All volunteers are required to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, MAP Health & Safety Requirements, and sign the MAP Health & Safety Induction Form. There will be a Health & Safety briefing on arrival at the venue.

Remuneration
All of these roles are strictly voluntary. However, ushers, technical assistants, box office, and hospitality volunteers will be provided with 2 complimentary tickets to a performance session of their choice, and the social media interns with a complimentary day pass to the festival.
