Job Description

Position Objective:
Thankyou Charitable trust is looking for experienced Trustees

Who We Are:
We are a participatory funder and we believe that the people working and living in a place are in the best position to understand the needs of their community – and that means they should be the ones who decide where money goes in their communities, not us. We have simple online applications, accountability dinner parties instead of reports and we use a “pay-it-forward” funding model, where successful grant recipients come together to make decisions about who receives funding in the next grant round. We see this practice as an opportunity to engage in generosity and reciprocity, grow connection, collaboration and leadership within and across communities.

The Thankyou Charitable Trust launched in 2013 in order to give out money generated by the operations of Thankyou Payroll. We aim to support communities to grow their resilience, connectedness, well-being and sustainability through small grants of between $100 and $3000.

We are specifically looking for Trustees who have proven experience in:

Not-for-profit governance or management
Bookkeeping skills and/or experience with xero

We are looking for people who may want to take on a leadership role and have the capacity to assist with financial management and implementation to support the operational/grants arm of the Trust. Currently on the Board we have people with experience in social enterprise, IT, local governance and funding.

Practical Commitment:

– We meet 3 times a year; two of these are online meetings and all trustees meet in Wellington for the AGM. The meeting commitment is approximately 6 hours
-Assisting the grant manager at grant reviews and dinners in your region typically 1-2 evening events per year
– Total time commitment will be 12-20hrs per year
– Some delegated work such as financial management and reporting, reviewing funding applications for new grant rounds
– The role is voluntary
