Full-Time Sous Chef / Kitchen Hand

Job Description

Position Overview

The Sustainable Food Co’s (SFC) Sous Chef is responsible for assisting in the day to day running of the SFC kitchen and all its associated activities, from ordering ingredients to preparing food for clients, delivering catering and helping with events. This is a critical role in the Sustainable Food Co family and requires both attention to detail and a love for delivering inspired and high-quality food. This role provides

the opportunity to learn and develop specialist skills in the food service and sustainability industries while developing your craft with creativity and flair. Success in this role looks like high quality food, happy customers and a good relationship with your manager.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Food Service and Preparation

  • Prepare a high standard and cooked to set company specifications (our recipies)
  • Receive deliveries, stocking and keeping stock records Follow all required sanitary and food safety standards
  • Follow all health and safety requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times when not in use
  • Ensure the kitchen follows SFC’s sustainability guidelines and procedures.

Collaboration

  • Coordinate with event delivery staff for service at events.
  • Work collaboratively with the Head Chef and other members of staff

Outreach

  • Assist with deliveries when required
  • Help clients set up food for their events
  • Assist with off-site events as and when required

Continual Development

  • Develop, plan and budget new menus and menu items (with the Creative Director and Head Chef)
  • Recommend and implement new systems and processes
  • Reccommend priorities for the development of the organisation

Key Skills, Experience and other Requirements

  • A current Food Safety Certificate
  • Excellent people skills and experience in kitchen teams
  • Good decision-making skills
  • Impressive time-management and organisational skills, keeping things calm and in control during busy times
  • Knowledge of health and safety and food hygiene regulations and procedures
  • Knowledge of food and drink preparation and presentation
  • A full driver’s licence
