Male Survivors Aotearoa – Enabling the wellbeing of all male survivors of sexual violence

 Job Summary

This role is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to strengthen the capacity of support for male survivors nationally.

This is a key role within MSA, aligned to some very important goals.

The opportunity:

  • Reporting to the Chair, Ropu Tautoko, our new position of Pouarahi Māori offers an opportunity to make a significant contribution, increasing the support for male survivors to prevent the impact of violence within their lives.                            
  • This role will work with MSA’s Te Ropu group and in collaboration with the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers of MSA and its member organisations (MMO) to:
    • enable and assist these organisations to work effectively with and for Māori survivors;
    • enable and encourage the development of effective working relationships with Kaupapa Māori services, and;
    • contribute to the delivery of the outcomes implicit to the MSA purpose and ambition statements, and as defined from time to time in Ropu Tautoko workplan, approved by the MSA Board.                                                               
    • To be successful in this role you must be passionate about MSA’s purpose. 

It is envisioned that 50% of Pouarahi time will focus on implementation of the strategic priorities as defined in the Ropu Tautoko workplace, and 50% will focus on providing support to regional MMO.

Your background

The following attributes, skills, qualifications and experience are sought for this role:

  • You must be flexible, comfortable with change, self-aware and resilient to the types of pressure in the role                                                                                                
  • You must have a high level of integrity, strive for ongoing self-development and be comfortable seeking feedback from others                                                                  
  • Te reo Māori me ngā tikanga, with the ability to translate into strategy and practice for MSA
  • A tertiary qualification relevant to the Kaupapa of MSA        
  • Evidenced ability to develop strategy and then successfully implement it within the operation
  • Proven relationship management and expert communication skills                          
  • Strong track record in working within and understanding of whānau violence       
  • Demonstrated experience in empowering survivors to achieve their oranga            
  • Have no criminal convictions relevant to the role or could impact on MSA              
  • Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised                                                                    
  • Strong leadership skills                                                                                                       
  • Clean Drivers Licence                                                                                                            
  • Demonstrated information technology skills
