Contract: 27th Sept 2021 – 31st Dec 2022: last three months of 2021 will be in a training capacity

Hours: 24-36 hours a week, with intention of increased hours in 2022

Role objective:

In this role, your primary focus is on the coordination of the Wellington area programmes and facilitators. You will have a focus on organisation and your excellent communication skills will support the building, developing and maintaining of relationships. You will be responsible for Papa Taiao Earthcare’s networks via social media and newsletters. You will organise school outreach to promote our programmes and engage with taiohi.


Papa Taiao Earthcare’s mission is to enable young people to make a living through enterprise while regenerating our planet and its people. Papa Taiao is a young values-based social enterprise with the vision of linking student-led ecological and community regenerative actions with enterprise. In 2015 Papa Taiao piloted our first programme in Northland.

In Wellington, Papa Taiao has been growing every year. In 2017 three programmes were running in Aotea College, Wellington High School and Hutt Valley High School. In 2019 programmes are operating in more than 15 secondary schools around Wellington. Wellington students have initiated projects in regenerative urban farming, zero waste, trapping, tree planting, wētā hotel building and trap building. In 2018 our Predator Free Secondary School Programme inspired students around Wellington to undertake restoration projects in their school grounds and community. The current focus of Papa Taiao courses is in conservation, regeneration, waste reduction, change making and urban agriculture.  In 2022 we will expand this to include education on freshwater and climate change.

Key components of role:


  • Be a point of contact for the facilitators in Wellington and Porirua, and our administrator in Auckland
  • Liaise with local community suppliers (hosts, specialised facilitators, DOC) for the organisation of programmes
  • Assist with providing supplies required for courses
  • Look after the Wellington business vehicles
  • Keep regular contact with engaged schools through meeting key teachers and Principals and teachers
  • Prepare, coordinate and attend assemblies, career days, coordinate posters, fliers and pamphlets, post student annual reviews.


  • Create social media plan for Instagram and Facebook, deliver engaging and relevant content
  • Make basic website updates
  • Create two newsletters each term
  • Manage online storage of promotional material, schools’ newsletters
  • Respond to inquiries on FB, Instagram and Papa Taiao website
  • Promote courses across the Wellington region and nationally through face to face meetings with careers advisors, community stakeholders, and principals.


  • Identify relevant funding streams & create a funding application timeline
  • Apply for funding
  • Ensure Papa Taiao is meeting the requirements of the outcomes for funding agreements
  • Collaborate with facilitators to compile reports based on the outcomes of funding agreements
  • Stay on top of the Wellington area budget

General Administration:

  • Writing up and communicating clear roles and outcomes for professional development meetings
  • Staying on top of the organisation of the Google Drive
  • Ensuring Papa Taiao Earthcare documentation is streamlined and brand aligned
  • Attend professional development hui twice a year with the Papa Taiao team from around Aotearoa (first is 18-20 January 2022)

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven coordination experience
  • Have excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Demonstrate endless enthusiasm and resilience
  • Be confident with problem solving and coming up with creative solutions
  • Have a mind for processes and systems
  • Have an ability to bring order and direction to creative ideas and initiatives
  • Have a solid understanding of sustainability and regeneration
  • Align with Papa Taiao Earthcare’s kaupapa and mission
  • Understand the importance of being a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner
  • Be able to work independently, but is comfortable asking for help and support
  • Marketing experience advantageous
  • Experience in the education sector helpful, but not required
  • Plan to stay in Wellington for a number of years to grow in the role
