OPERATIONS MANAGER

Live for More’s vision is for confident and hopeful rangatahi free from their pasts and empowered to live fulfilling lives. We provide support to the most vulnerable young men between 17 and 25 years old who are caught up in lifestyles of crime and drug/alcohol abuse. Along with clinical support and individual goal setting, we also engage them through our Tai Wātea surf therapy programme which gets them out of an office and onto the waves. This group therapy programme challenges them in an encouraging environment and allows them to look at where their lives are headed, empowering them to build momentum in a more positive direction.

This is a 3 month fixed-term contract to help us move towards gaining accreditation with the Ministry of Social Development. It is an exciting opportunity that offers a diverse range of challenges in helping us refine our policy and procedures and guiding us in the professional management of staff to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day requirements of the organisation. Live for More is hoping to establish a permanent Operations Manager position once funding is in place.

The key parts of the role are:

 Obtaining and managing the Ministry of Social Development accreditation
 Developing and implementing policies and procedures
 Managing all the Health and Safety requirements for the organisation
 Establishing ongoing evaluation and outcome measurements
 Securing and managing contracts and relationships with providers, government agencies, partners, corporate sponsors and supporters
 Organising, managing and supporting staff and volunteers
 Managing the payroll function
 Driving the funding and marketing plans of the organisation
 Fundraising presentations and networking with the view to securing donors
 Developing marketing materials, tools and products

What skills and knowledge would you have:

 Experience with designing and developing policies and procedures
 Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Safety and the legislation that governs this
 Demonstrated experience in driving strategic goals including securing and managing funding contracts
 Confident with public speaking, presentations and networking
 Previous people management and payroll experience
 Excellent verbal and written communication with great Microsoft Office skills
 Knowledge of Xero
 Website management or graphic design with some marketing knowledge or experience would be advantageous
 Understanding of AOD, mental health and the justice system would also be a bonus

What personal attributes and experience would you have:

 A minimum of two years management experience
 Passionate about seeing the young people we work with succeed in life
 Humble and empathetic with a non-judgmental attitude
 Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Māori culture
 Fit and willing to participate in the Surf Therapy programmes if needed
 A full driver’s license is essential
 Some experience working for or with a charitable organisation or past volunteering experience would be great
 Any experience with group sessions and group work would be an advantage
 It would be a bonus if you had a current First Aid Certificate
