VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai (VWM) is a national organisation that connects tamariki and rangatahi who have been or are in care. At the core of our kaupapa is the belief that the voices of tamariki and rangatahi in care need to be kept at the centre of all decisions made about them. We believe that it is only in working together that the vision of building a community of care experienced children and young people will be realised.
About the Role
Reporting to the National Operations Manager, the Midlands Kaiwhakahaere will lead and manage the Midlands teams of VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai in line with our collective vision. You will ensure the interface of services and tamariki atawhai is provided in an effective and efficient manner, including the integration of a proactive approach to service enhancement and development. An important aspect of the role is working to establish, develop and deliver connection and advocacy services to care experienced children and young people. A strategic engagement focus will be a key requirement to ensure VOYCE Whakarongo Mai is established as a trusted and collaborative partner across this region.
Like everyone else at VOYCE- Whakarongo Mai, you’ll work in ways that places the voice of care experienced young people at the heart of everything you do. To develop our services VOYCE uses a co-design methodology that places the care experienced community at the centre of our work across our design, prototyping, and testing processes to build and develop our services. Every day you’ll be asked to draw on your creativity, innovative thinking and insights from care-experienced children and young people as you contribute to building and delivering services. You will also be creating a movement that will build a wider community out of which our future organisational leaders will evolve.
You will need to believe in the kaupapa of VOYCE – Whakarongo Mai and bring an authentic passion for young people and a desire to influence the care system. In addition, you will bring:
- leadership and senior management experience in the care sector.
- strong networks into iwi in the region, which will enable you to navigate these partnerships easily.
- a strong youth development focus.
The successful candidate will be based in either Waikato or Bay of Plenty, however as part of your commitment to building the care community in the Midlands region, you will need to balance your time between the two hubs in Hamilton and Mount Maunganui to be visible and approachable to the local team.
