Part-Time Kaimahi Taiohi – Tamariki / Youth Worker – Children

Newtown Community & Cultural Centre –  Wellington City, Wellington

Job Description

We are seeking a ‘Kaimahi Taiohi – Tamariki’ / ‘Youth Worker – Children’ to join the Newtown Community & Cultural Centre Youth Programme team. Our community-based Youth Programme empowers our local young people and children to unleash their potential, develop positive personal skills and have meaningful relationships in our community. This role focuses on supporting 5-12 year olds and works alongside our Kaimahi Taiohi – Rangatahi, who works with 12-24 year olds.

The ideal candidate will be experienced working with children aged 5-12, be confident relating to people of all backgrounds and ethnicities, with excellent organisational and communication skills. This position requires lots of initiative, in order to tailor the programme to the needs of the community.

The Youth Worker will work on our current programmes, including our awesome Newtown Holiday Programme (they must therefore be available during school holiday periods), but the role has heaps of opportunity to develop new programmes to support the children of Newtown.

This is a flexible paid part-time position of 20 hours per week and may require some evening/weekend work. The position involves working closely with the other member of our Youth Programme team and coordinating casual staff and volunteers, so the ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

Applicants must be able to work in NZ and employment will be subject to a clean NZ Police Vetting report.

We particularly encourage Māori, Pasifika and refugee-background candidates to apply. We particularly encourage young people aged 20-24 to apply.

To apply, please email a cover letter and CV to Ellie Clayton at the Newtown Community & Cultural Centre on [email protected] or call 04 389 4786 with any questions.

Applications close Monday 9th March at 5pm.
