The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ carries on the work of legendary Kiwi, the late Professor Fred Hollows, who championed the right of all people to high quality and affordable eye care. We work in the Pacific where four out of five people that are blind, don’t need to be as their condition is treatable or preventable. We restore sight to the needlessly blind and train local eye health specialists to provide eye care services in their own communities. About the vacancy

 

The Information & Research Advisor is one of our functional specialists that comprises our programme quality team.

Responsible for our research portfolio this role ensures that all research and related activities are in line with our organisational strategy.

The role conducts, manages and leads on prioritised research activities and ensures that high-quality evidence is generated as a result of these research activities.

Key to the role is ensuring that our programmes are research driven and that research outcomes are used effectively by The Foundation and our partners in future practices. The role also supports purposeful data collection, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, learning and impact systems to support our funding and stakeholder relationships.

The Information & Research Advisor works closely with and supports the PQ team to use evidence-based practices that ensure our programme activities are aligned to our vision and purpose. The role ensures dissemination of programme-related information is accurate, relevant and current.

This role manages a number of internal and external partnerships and operates cross-functionally within the organisation to encourage data-driven decisions. Managing and maintaining research partnerships within the Pacific region and in New Zealand is a crucial component of the role. This involves providing research support and collaborating with a range of research partners to advance The Foundation’s research priorities and objectives.

This is a fast-paced and varied role where each day is different, from working with the Resource Mobilisation Coordinator to source funding, managing research consultancies, querying data with our Database Specialist, providing research support to Pacific eye care staff, or undertaking research internally.

What you bring to the role

You will have at least 3 years’ experience in a research role preferably in the public health or international development sectors. You will be experienced in end-to-end research project management including methodologies, report writing, research analysis and other research related skills. A public health background, understanding of how health systems work in low resource settings as well as understanding data, outcomes and statistical analysis would be beneficial. You will be a team player and have the ability to build rapport and strong relationships with a range of people. You will also be a great public speaker with the confidence to present information to others.
