Full-Time Healthy Homes Assessor

Sustainability Trust  Wellington City, Wellington 48,000 - 55,000

Job Description

Do you hate seeing Māori and Pacific people suffering because of the quality of their housing!  So do we, so come and join our team of dedicated home performance assessors who are working with whanau across the rōpū to make things better.

Sustainability Trust is Wellington-based community enterprise warming up Wellington homes and reducing the environmental footprint of homes across the region. We do this by assessing and installing insulation, heating and ventilation in residential homes, providing community education workshops, running school programmes, and supporting vulnerable households – especially those experiencing energy hardship and housing-related health issues.

We recognise that warm, dry housing is a fundamental human right and that health and social inequities are borne disproportionately by groups such as Māori and Pasifika.

We are seeking a stand-out candidate to join our team to provide front-line support and promotion services to whānau in our Well Homes programme. The role includes conducting energy efficiency, social and health assessments in eligible households.

We are seeking someone ideally with a social or health background who can deliver our service to whānau in Wellington City, Porirua and Kapiti areas. As the majority of our clients are Māori or Pasifika, experience in working in a kaupapa Māori environment or Pasifika focus would be advantageous.

As the newest member of our Healthy Homes Team, you will join a small team of staff who are passionate about helping families to achieve a warm, dry home that is safe, with enough space for the whole household.

To be successful in this role, you need:

  • You will need excellent relationship building skills, be non-judgmental and comfortable meeting new people.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with people from a range of cultures and backgrounds
  • Passion for and knowledge of home energy efficiency is advantageous
  • A social or health working background or qualification
  • High standard of written and verbal communication
  • Ability and willingness to conduct household inspections (which includes getting under houses)

If you think you don’t have all the skills or experience, we want, but think you can offer some other value-add, please feel free to apply also. We are keen to get the right person for this role and support and training will be provided to ensure you excel in the position.

Why choose us over everyone else? Being a part of Sustainability Trust means:

  • Getting great discounts on all our products and services
  • Working from home time to suit your day of appointments
  • Never working past 6 pm
  • getting great discounts on all our products and services and staff interest free loans for a commuter e-bike or most Trust products or services
  • Never working weekends
  • Sleeping well at night knowing that you’re part of a social enterprise that cares about the community in the Wellington region.

Got kids? No worries. So do we. If they take a trip and you need to bolt, we get it. We’ve been there. We’re big fans of the work-life balance. The hours for this role are 37.5 hours across Monday to Friday.

We will provide a smartphone, laptop and a vehicle for work use.

The starting annual salary will be approximately $48-55,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

Home base is Sustainability Trust HQ in central Wellington, but you could be anywhere and everywhere in the Wellington region.

For this role, you will undergo training with another Assessor, shadowing and learning the role before starting individual house visits. A drivers licence is a must-have for this job.

Who are we?

We’re a bunch of awesome people, motivated by the fact that this is the decade of urgency for the planet.  We’ve got no time to waste, so we’re busy (and a little noisy) every day, working with our community to take climate action and making Kiwi homes warmer, drier and more energy-efficient. We’re family friendly, dog friendly and just generally friendly. You’re going to love us!

We know that innovation thrives in teams where diverse points of view are welcomed and celebrated.  We explicitly seek people that bring diverse life experiences, who have diverse cultural identities, educational backgrounds and work experiences. We know that, together, this kind of diversity is what it takes to solve hard problems.

Sustainability Trust is proud to be Living Wage Accredited and an equal opportunity employer.

To apply, submit your cover letter and CV to [email protected] with the subject Healthy Homes Assessor by 5pm, 12 August 2022.  We may extend the closing date if needed.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and a full, clean NZ Drivers License. You will also need to undergo a clean slate vetting check.
