Board position Hamilton Fringe Trust Chairperson

Job Description

There are multiple roles available for within our trust. The old trust are passing it on as they have been running the Fringe for more than 10 years. They would like some new people with fresh enthusiasm, and a passionate commitment to Kirikiriroa/Hamilton/Waikato’s art scene to come on board and bring new energy to the festival.

The Chairperson

The Chairperson’s role is to lead the Trust, liaise with and provide support to the Festival Director, ensure the organisation is well managed, to chair trust meetings and to provide direction for the Trust and the festival.

The Chairperson is responsible for ensuring the Trust is well-run and delivering the charitable outcomes for which it has been established. They should become familiar with the Trust Deed. The Trust may change aspects of the deed (through the proper process) if they decide it will be more beneficial to the community.

The Chairperson is responsible for ensuring any concerns or issues are heard and appropriately addressed and ensuring the Trust has sufficient suitable Trustees and volunteers.

They could identify other trustees strengths, building and leading the team. They may review the Committee’s performance and provide constructive suggestions for how to best achieve our charitable aims, liaising and guiding the festival Director. They may also represent the organisation at events or meetings and network with other businesses or organisations.

If the Chairperson was interested in committing to being further involved in organising the festival they could take on other roles within the committee. They could be the festival director themselves. They could take on roles such as seeking corporate sponsorship, making funding applications, or making the marketing plan for the festival.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about our community, a great networker, and a natural or experienced leader. It would suit someone who has organisational and management skills, and possibly previous governance experience. A great positive for our team would be someone who is interested in marketing or sponsorship and funding applications, but this is not a pre-requisite.

The Hamilton Fringe Festival is an open access arts festival. We support emerging artists as they go through the process of organising, marketing and hosting their events. For some artists our support is most helpful in the marketing sense, as they are included in the 5000 copies of our programme which are distributed throughout Hamilton, for others it is the morale support, support with funding applications, or with applying for permits. We have found that supporting artists in this way builds their confidence, gives them a supportive platform from which to try new things, and builds their experience and skill base.
