Voluntary Family and Sexual Violence Counselling Mentor
The Family Support Centre Clinic (FSCC) is a part of the Nonga General Hospital. FSCC supports and provides services to survivors of family sexual violence (FSV), looking after and restoring their physical, mental and emotional well-being. FSV is prevalent and persistent across Papua New Guinea and in many cases, the healthcare sector is the first opportunity a survivor has to activate assistance, recovery, and protection.
Gaps in skills and knowledge are some of the barriers to developing effective and sustainable services, so the VSA volunteer’s focus will be to help build and strengthen the Clinic’s capacity and capability.
The volunteer will work alongside the Officer in Charge who is a registered nurse and will report to the Director of Medical Services. By reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of the current practices and systems, you will advise and identify strengths and areas for further development and improvement
Inter-sectorial partnerships play a major role in the standard of services that can be provided. You will work on collaboration between the clinic and FSV stakeholders within the community, strengthening networks and communication and providing technical support. You will also help build the skills of FSV volunteers so that they successfully promote awareness and support those who are in need of its services
We are looking for a resilient, solution-oriented person with fantastic interpersonal skills. This is an opportunity for a professional with strong experience in Family Harm to make a real difference in the communities of Papua New Guinea
We are looking for a volunteer with:
-Professional experience in Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), social work, family therapy, mental health, Gender Equality or related field
-A qualification in the health or SGBV related fields (e.g., family therapy, social work or psychology)
