Full-Time Economic Fairness Campaigner

ActionStation is an independent, community-powered, not-for-profit campaigning organisation that works for economic fairness, a thriving environment, whānau and children’s wellbeing, a vibrant democracy, and an Aotearoa that truly honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We’re a fast-growing and nimble organisation and now we’re looking for a new Campaigner with great communication skills, a creative and entrepreneurial mind, and a passion for getting stuff done. Most of our organising is online but you will also help us organise offline campaign actions, from petition deliveries to rallies and public meetings.
You’ll be primarily focused on our ‘Economic Fairness’ pillar, responsible for designing and leading campaigns that:
– Increase the number of people in our community taking ‘deeper actions’ to end income inequality and whānau poverty. These deeper actions include: becoming a regular donor, making a submission to parliament (oral or written), hosting an event to grow the movement, making phone calls or sending text messages to get out the vote for parties whose policies align with our members’ priorities and values at election 2020, or visiting an MP.
– Amplify the voices and policy recommendations of credible experts (e.g. Child Poverty Action Group) and those with lived experience (e.g. We Are Beneficiaries) so they are central to the public debate about income inequality and poverty in New Zealand;
– Achieve progressive policy wins for economic fairness i.e. changes in government policy and funding decisions that prioritise the wellbeing of children, young people, adults and elders, as opposed to the wellbeing of corporations and big business;
– Ensure we elect and hold accountable parties who prioritise children and whānau wellbeing in election 2020.
You’ll probably have one to two years relevant experience, but this doesn’t necessarily need to be in an NGO or digital campaigning. You do need to be tech savvy or able to convince us that you’ve got the ability to pick tech skills up quickly.
Location: Auckland or Wellington, with some opportunities to travel.
Hours: 40 hours per week. The job is often driven by a campaign cycle, so there are times that involve long hours and times that don’t. Our culture recognises both the needs of campaigns and the need for rest and for our staff to have a life.
Salary: $52,000 — $60,000p.a depending on experience
