Full-Time Chief Executive

English Language Partners New Zealand –  Wellington City, Wellington

Job Description

ELPNZ is New Zealand’s largest national not-for-profit provider of English language education and training to former refugees and migrants, helping our learners set up new lives around New Zealand via a large and dedicated network of teaching, support staff and volunteers.

With a clear vision and strategy, a strong reputation and track record of success, ELPNZ has strong foundations and is well positioned for the future. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced our desire to ‘keep ahead of change’, including accelerating our development of digital and blended delivery and alternative revenue generation strategies.

As a proven chief executive or general manager of a large and complex entity, you will have a solid understanding of how the tertiary and vocational education ecosystem operates. You will have values that align strongly with a not-for-profit provider and a genuine desire to take a leading role in making a real difference to settlement outcomes for former refugees and migrants.

Key areas for further development include:
• Driving, growing and developing digital and blended delivery.
• Retaining and attracting learners and responding to the economic impact of the pandemic.
• Further developing the provision of English in the workplace, through relationships across the business sector.
• Leveraging an already strong reputation across government and working constructively with government to improve settlement outcomes for former refugees and migrants.

In order to succeed in this role, you will:
• Be a leader who is inspirational, connected, transparent … and pragmatic.
• Possess genuine empathy for former refugee and migrant communities, driven to deliver the highest quality educational services so they can learn the English they need to participate and live independent lives.
• Show evidence of steering an organisation through challenging situations.
• Understand the ‘machinery of government’ and how to leverage relationships, gain support and get better results for the organisation and its learners.
• Have some knowledge and experience of digital strategies and delivery channels.
• Be familiar with te reo and tikanga Māori and have a heart to lead a Tiriti-informed organisation.
