About the Council for International Development (CID)

The Council for International Development (CID) is the national umbrella agency of international development organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand. They are the guardians of professional standards, by promoting learning, innovation, the principles of good development, and shared practice. CID connects and strengthens a dynamic network of international NGOs and their partners by creating opportunities for organisations to collaborate and come together for training, debates, analysis and events.

About the role

The Council for International Development (CID) is looking for an experienced Business Development & Member Engagement Manager, to join its small team, and lead on its fundraising and member engagement.

About you

You’ll have strong relationship management and communication skills, able to connect with a diverse range of stakeholders. Your fundraising and business management experience will help to grow CID and its membership.

Scope of responsibility

  • Engage and strengthen relationships with existing members. 
  • Lead on business development, and scoping new partnerships and collaborations, plus identification of new members, supporters or funders to increase CID’s influence. 
  • Identify emerging issues and opportunities for CID to increase its value to members 
  • Lead on business planning and reporting 
  • Support the Executive Director to identify diverse funding sources; to grow CID’s span of influence and connection with key stakeholders
  • Connect CID members with international good practice, data and research. 
  • Contribute to public awareness campaigns to increase the understanding of New Zealand’s aid and development work.


This is a key lead role in a small team, working closely with the Executive Director. Its core purpose is to engage with members and key stakeholders, and maintain oversight of the training and e-learning. The role will support CID to broaden its influence and to identify and build new partnerships with development actors, New Zealand businesses, and social enterprises, academia, and other government departments. 

The development of these partnerships will encourage increased collaboration and synergies across sectors and diversify CID’s funding, resulting in optimised development impact. The role will also lead in the drafting and implementation of the CID Annual Survey of the Sector and contribute to public awareness campaigns to increase the understanding of New Zealand’s aid and development work. The role includes business planning and reporting (to MFAT and the CID Board).

It also contributes to CID communications and events and assists with other collective activities. The role will lead on securing sponsorship for key events, such as the CID Annual Conference.

Hours of Work:  The position is full-time (40 hours/week) 

Office is located on Lambton Quay, flexible working from home arrangements can be made.
