About Us
MDA Central is one of our regional branches of a national charity that
supports individuals, families and whānau with over 70 types of neuromuscular (muscle-wasting)
condition by providing specialist information, practical resources, personalised support services, social networks, campaigns for public awareness and advocacy. Our branch covers the entire lower North Island from Taranaki to Tairawhiti and Whanganui to Wellington. As a registered charity (CC41097) and a member-led disabled persons’ organisation our vision is to enable our members with neuromuscular conditions to live with ‘freedom
beyond limits’. We are committed to doing so by providing community-based, support, resources, and advocacy; partnering with clinicians to deliver best-practice care for these rare, yet debilitating conditions; and providing member events, social activities and peer-support opportunities for our over 500 members, families and support networks.
