Te Whare Ruruhau o Meri is a kaupapa Maori social service provider serving the communities of South Auckland and Te Tai Tokerau. We are the social services arm of Te Pihopatanga o Te Tai Tokerau – the Maori Anglican Church. Our ministry and mission is to uphold whanau that are in need of compassion and aroha, and to lead the restoration of whanau wellbeing.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

This is a full-time role based in Balmoral as part of the Family Harm team.

The Kairuruku/Social Practice Worker will work closely with Government Organisations and NGOs to address reports of family harm in Auckland Central communities. The support will be carried out in whānau homes primarily, or in other settings as appropriate. Kairuruku/Social Practice Workers will engage with victims of family harm and their whānau to identify what support is needed, refer them to relevant services within their community such as specialised counselling, and work with them towards achieving positive outcomes.

The duties and tasks may include undertaking assessments, developing and case managing plans with clients, customising resources and support for people, and carrying out evaluations during and following the completion of work.

Mōu | About you

  • Completed Social work, Counselling or relevant Health or Mental Health degree OR extensive experience working with victims of family harm, physical and/or sexual violence
  • Trauma-informed training/experience preferred
  • Experience managing a caseload preferred
  • Competent in computer skills, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of/proficiency in Kaupapa Māori approaches, Tikanga Māori and/or Te Reo Māori OR the ability and willingness to learn
  • Resilient and able to communicate effectively and respectfully in the face of difficulty and/or difference
