Board position ShelterBox Trustee – Rotary Engagement Director
ShelterBox New Zealand is affiliated to the UK world-wide ShelterBox aid organisation that delivers survival essentials to families in the aftermath of a disaster or conflict. ShelterBox began in 2000 and has responded to earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tsunamis and conflict– everywhere where families need emergency shelter. ShelterBox Response Team is at the forefront with its tailored aid containing items for survival, currently five brave Kiwis are members of the international response team.
We are seeking a Director with a passion for helping people, raising profiles and who possess the ability to focus our Rotary engagement efforts across NZ. We want to get the message about ShelterBox out to the wider Rotary community and seek someone who has strengths in:
• Knowledge of Rotary club / district structure;
• Well networked in Rotary space;
• Confident at public speaking would be advantageous but not essential;
• Ideally a Rotarian and/or held a past District Governor type role;
• Previous experience as a Director would be advantageous but not essential
The ShelterBox ‘product’ sells itself as long as the community is aware of it and this is what we are wanting to build upon – so that the organisation can help many more people world-wide who are in need, right now. We have recently acquired the services of an excellent fundraising consultant who is already driving change and positive movement in our NZ efforts, including recruiting two new fundraising volunteers – with this, we need up to two new board members to provide leadership and oversight in this Rotary engagement capacity and to contribute to wider governance matters at board level.
Monthly Board meetings (virtual and out of core business hours); liaison with other Directors and working groups as required but especially at times when disasters occur worldwide. We hold face to face board meetings once or twice a year at locations around NZ and we cover travel costs.
How to Apply
Please send us your CV and a cover letter explaining your motivation to join our team as well as your expectations from the role.
This is a unique opportunity to join a global movement of people who believe in shelter as a human right and are fighting to make sure no family is left without shelter after disaster or conflict. We welcome all applications and encourage you let us know how you believe your personal skills and experience can benefit our mission.
