Voluntary Provincial Planner – Vanuatu
Share your urban planning skills and help advance decentralisation in Vanuatu.
Decentralisation is the priority for the Vanuatu Ministry of Internal Affairs. To that effect, the Department of Local Authorities’ prime responsibility is to support the Provincial and Municipal Councils in providing administrative and technical support and legislative advice. Torba is the most remote province in Vanuatu and has the least access to assistance and services. With the assistance of a previous VSA volunteer, the Sola Planning Unit developed a provincial policy, a provincial operating plan, a revenue roadmap, and an investment policy.
In this exciting assignment, you will work with the Provincial Government on the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of these policies. You will also work alongside the Provincial Planner and Area Council Development Officer to develop building codes, zoning and physical plans of the provincial headquarters as well as provide input to a beautification plan for the provincial headquarters.
This assignment offers a rewarding opportunity to help facilitate economic development in Vanuatu.
We are looking for a volunteer with:
-A Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Planning or a related field
-Professional experience in urban and regional planning and implementation (preferably in a government/local government context)
-Experience providing on-the-job training and mentoring
-Clear, well-articulated written and verbal communication skills
VSA volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs.
