Full-Time Methodist City Chaplain – StreeTs Ministry
An opportunity to explore new expressions of ministry and mission in inner city Christchurch
Do you have an understanding of community development , a commitment to social justice and social change, a passion for finding new ways of being church, and the ability to get alongside people from all walks of life? Are you self-motivated, energetic, creative, compassionate, and a good communicator?
This unique exciting full time ministry role was created for the purpose of engaging with the re-emerging inner city community of Christchurch in innovative and creative ways. The current appointee will be leaving in September 2018 and the parish is seeking to continue this innovative ministry for a further 3 years.
You will work in partnership with the congregation of the Christchurch Central Methodist Parish (Durham Street Methodist Church) assisting them in finding creative ways to engage with the ‘soul’ of the city in its myriad forms and expressions.
You don’t need to be ordained or even Methodist, as long as you have a keen working sympathy for the Methodist ethos.
You do need to have good walking shoes and be prepared to be out and about on the streets and in the cafes of the inner city for much of your time, engaging with business people, re-build workers, shoppers, street dwellers, City Council staff, city visitors, emergency service personnel – anyone you encounter in the city.
