He kōrero mōu | About You:

You will be an innovative thinker with a robust understanding of the mental health sector, passionate about improving the experiences of and outcomes for people accessing mental health services. You will have well-honed communication and relationship skills; with demonstrated ability to influence, facilitate and educate. You will be adept at analysing processes and linking ideas, enabling you to engage with strategic planning and ethical, legal and clinical issues at a systems level. You will have lived experience of mental illness and preferably also some experience as a user of mental health services. You will need the emotional resilience to work as an advocate and ability to maintain clear boundaries.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

You will lead a small but passionate team of Consumer Leaders working to ensure that service users have input into the development of mental health and addiction services. You will be a role model to the team regarding wellness management and resilience and support team members to manage both their wellness and work commitments. This role involves actively engaging and liaising with service user networks and conveying service users’ perspectives at a senior management level. The Consumer Manager will work in partnership with ADHB Planning and Funding and senior management to develop and agree on an overall annual work plan for the team of Consumer Leaders. 

What you will need to have: 

  • Tertiary qualification in social policy, management or a health-related field  
  • Astute communication and relationships building skills 
  • Knowledge of relevant health sector standards and legislation 
  • Knowledge of recovery perspectives and understanding of mental health issues 
  • Ability to work and connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures 
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and understanding of tikanga Māori
