Overseas Maternal Child Health and Nutrition Adviser – Timor-Leste
Volunteer Service Abroad covers costs while you are on assignment, including travel, accommodation, living allowance and more
Timor-Leste became independence in 2002, after a violent history through decades of struggle for independence from Indonesia. As a young nation, Timor-Leste is moving from a post conflict fragile state to a developing, resilient nation. The population is very young, and the under-five mortality rate is 50 per 1000 live births, so there is a great need to support maternal and child health.
On a day to day basis the volunteer will work most closely with the technical specialists in the team, Area Managers, Project Coordinators and other field staff. The successful candidate will have proven experience working in the health sector, preferably in public health or community health projects or programming.
The World Vision Timor-Leste (WVTL) country office is located in the busy and vibrant city of Dili. The national office in Dili provides support and coordination for the Area Programmes in the Districts. WVTL has implemented a range of community-based programmes, one of which aims to reduce deaths of children under five and mothers by improving nutrition.
VSA assignments provide a unique opportunity for professional development by sharing your skills to build thriving communities in the Pacific and beyond. A core aspect of this role is to provide mentoring, coaching, training and support. You will conduct training and development needs analysis, to assess field staffs’ maternal and child nutrition knowledge and their project management skills. You will also assist staff to develop technical health modules, resources, tools and project management resources.
Experience required for this assignment:
– Tertiary qualification in Public Health, Nutrition or a related field
– Experience working in the health sector, preferably in public health or community -health projects or programming
– Ability to coach and mentor colleagues
– An understanding of appropriate data collection methods, and their application in monitoring, evaluation and reporting
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
This is a 1-year assignment in Timor-Leste
