Manager – Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

Permanent Part-Time Position

Are you a person who is passionate about working within the community  and making a real difference? We need a Manager for our Nelson Tasman Citizens Advice Bureau.

The Citizens Advice Bureau is a nation-wide volunteer organisation, with a proven track record.

The aims of the CAB:

  • To ensure that individuals do not suffer through ignorance of their rights and responsibilities, or of the services available, or through an inability to express their needs effectively; and
  • To exert a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both locally and nationally

What you will  be doing:

The Manager is responsible for the general management of the Nelson Tasman CAB, including:

  • recruiting and managing the team of approximately 45 local volunteers
  • assisting with on-going training and learning and development of volunteers
  • promoting the work of the CAB within the community.
  • Managing the Migrant Connect contract
  • Managing community relationships, liaison with other community agencies, funding agencies etc.

Experience and skills required

  • A strong communicator who is experienced in supporting people – our service is provided through a team of trained and committed volunteers.
  • Empathy; and a high level of interpersonal skills
  • A high level of oral and written skills
  • An excellent understanding of bi-cultural matters, particularly with regard to Te Tiriti O Waitangi
  • An awareness of cultural diversity, and the ability to function effectively and respectfully when working with and helping people of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Excellent networking skills
  • An understanding of some of the challenges facing the Nelson Tasman community, and hopefully some experience in working with community groups which are trying to address these challenges.
  • Good computer skills, including Excel, Word, database management, email, online calendars, and experience in managing social media platforms such as Facebook

Based in Nelson, this a permanent part time position of 20 hours per week.
