Contract Management Accountant

Who are we?    

Operating as a charitable trust and social enterprise, Sustainability Trust delivers a wide range of commercial, social and environmental programmes from home insulation and school holiday programmes, to our EcoShop and Curtain Bank. With an annual turnover of over $7m, and growing, we are looking for a management accountant to play a key role in the responsibility for our financial systems and processes.

Who are you?

We’re looking for someone who is confident with numbers, with at least five years’ accounting experience. You’ll be responsible for month end analysis, variance checking, liaising with cost centre managers regarding profitability, performing integration checks, ensuring all systems are in check and running smoothly.  The Trust’s finance manager will be there to support but will be largely focused on other areas of the business, so being a self-starter with an ability to work independently will be key to this role

Sustainability Trust is a medium-sized organisation, and you’ll need to have the ability to be able work closely with staff and assist them to get the best out of our current financial software systems. We have dedicated staff in our office and accounts department, that you’ll work closely with. You’ll also provide regular reporting and recommendations to the Board, CE, and managers to help them in decision making and forecasting.

60% of the Trust’s funds come from our income-generating business units. We are looking for someone who can provide us with well-developed commercial nous and financial skills to increase our profitability so that we can do more of our social and environmental mahi for the benefit of the people of the Wellington region.

Our current Financial Manager is working on another project at the Trust and so you’ll have robust training and handover to make sure you know exactly what you’re doing, and with all the right tools available to you.

We’ve sized the role at around 20-25 hours per month and are happy to be flexible around school-hours or other arrangements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Ability to promote and improve accounting, financial and administrative efficiencies
  • Ability to analyse business needs and recommend opportunities for process improvement
  • Ability to learn new systems, software, and procedures quickly and thoroughly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Excel and computing skills
  • Ability to work autonomously while handling multiple tasks with changing priorities and deadlines
  • High numerical competence and organisational skills
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Be ambitious, driven, and ready to take on a new challenge.

     Experience Required:

    • 5 years + of relevant accounting experience
    • Relevant tertiary qualifications (CA/CPA would be favourable)
    • Exposure to XERO an advantage
