Part-Time Kaiwhakahaere / Coordinator

Wellington Timebank  Wellington City, Wellington $24.50 per hour

Job Description

The Wellington Timebank is looking for an innovative, empathetic people-person to be the new Kaiwhakahaere/Coordinator. The Wellington Timebank is a community of people who share skills for time, rather than money, building a community of people who participate in this exciting alternative economy. You will be working in an empowering environment, with support from a committed Steering Committee and management.

The Timebank is in its 11th year and we’re looking for someone who can reinvigorate the community – especially important given the difficulties of Covid – bringing energy, ideas and leadership to achieve greater change in Wellington’s communities. There’s a real opportunity for the new Kaiwhakahaere to bring their own background, skills, networks and interests into this role and make it their own.

Timebank Vision: In our community we look out for each other and embrace diversity.

Timebank Mission: Through exchanging skills, time and knowledge we foster relationships of trust and reciprocity. We harness the real wealth of the community and the value of each individual.

Timebank Values:

  1. We are all assets. Every person has something to contribute.
  2. Redefining work. All kinds of work need to be honoured and rewarded.
  3. Reciprocity. Relationships are about giving and receiving. “You need me” becomes “We need each other.”
  4. Social networks. People helping each other weaves communities of support, strength and trust.
  5. Respect. All of us matter and are accountable to one another.

Hours and pay: This is a flexible, part-time position, paid at $24.50 per hour. The core funding for this role pays for 25 hours per week. We currently have additional funding to pay for 30 hours per week until the end of 2022. The Timebank functions best with around 30 hours of kaiwhakahaere/coordinator time, so we are looking for someone with capacity to do up to 30 hours, but only 25 can be guaranteed, as the extra hours depend on us securing additional funding going forwards. Work hours will include occasional evenings and weekends.

Location: The Newtown Community Centre office in Newtown, Wellington. Some work in other locations may be required – likely other community centres.

What we can offer you:

  • $24.50 per hour
  • Some flexibility with work hours
  • Some limited work from home may be possible – office hours must be maintained, but these can be negotiated around your schedule
  • This is a great opportunity for someone starting out in community development mahi, or looking to change careers/returning to workforce
  • Opportunities for professional training and development
  • A healthy, fun and caring workplace with a positive team culture
  • Bring your personality, creativity and ideas to work
  • Get involved in the community centre vibe as much as you like. Join us for a free community lunch every Friday, meet community members, use our fancy coffee machine, grab free pastries from the Community Fridge!
