The purpose of the Kāinga Tupu Advisor role at Tauranga City Council is to provide strategic advice and expertise on building responsive work programmes that support and advocate for people experiencing homelessness. Provide a secretariat/ project management function to support the Kāinga Tupu Taskforce and Kāinga Tupu stakeholder networks.

We are looking for an exceptional person to fulfil the role of Kāinga Tupu Advisor on a 14-month fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. This is a busy, dynamic, and rewarding role, focused on providing strategic advice and expertise, project management and relationship management to build strong connections and responsive work programmes to address homelessness across the Western Bay of Plenty sub-region.

This role includes:

  • Ensuring communities of need are advocated for and real solutions to social issues are found
  • Ensuring community needs and aspirations are met through quality relationships
  • Ensuring Tauranga is an inclusive, welcoming and equitable city, where all people feel safe, valued and can participate fully in their community
  • Establishing relationships that are trusted, sustainable and effective

To be successful, you will have:

  • Experience in strategic planning, business case development, or project management.
  • Extensive experience with internal and external relationship management, in particular the ability to network and build relationships with social services, government agencies and community groups
  • Knowledge and experience in securing external funding would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi, Tikanga Māori and its implications for community development
  • Tertiary qualification (Degree) in community development, social policy or related discipline and/or at least five years practical experience in a similar role and in community development processes
