Job Description

Are you passionate about improving the wellbeing/hauora of young women/kōhine? We are looking for an awesome human to join the Shift Foundation as a Kaimahi Taiohi (Youth Worker).

The Shift Foundation is a Charitable Trust that was established in 2016. We are a Wellington based youth-development organisation that supports young women to lead their best lives. We support young women to be more confident, connected and empowered through co-designing innovative and impactful opportunities with them. We use what we learn to support people who influence young women’s lives to be more informed, capable and inclusive.

The Kaimahi Taiohi is responsible for developing initiatives that respond to the needs of young women across Wellington City and Porirua. You will work alongside young women, inclusive of queer/rainbow communitites, Secondary Schools and internal Shift staff to lead the development and delivery of new Shift Foundation prototypes and initiatives that benefit young women and align with the new Shift Foundation 2022-2025 Strategy.  

The successful applicant will have experience in Youth Work, Health, Education, Psychology or another relevant discipline that provides a framework for understanding human behavior, especially with respect to young people. Ideally they will also have event/programme facilitation and delivery experience, be proficient in social media and be able to create engaging resources for use when working with kōhine.

 You must be comfortable working as part of a remote team, be a self-starter and passionate about young women’s wellbeing. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the design and development of the EmpowHER conference by the end of December 2022.
  • Codesign and deliver EmpowHER opportunities with kōhine in Wellington City and Porirua over 12 months.
  • Lead the engagement with young women to develop new prototypes and initiatives that align with the Shift Foundation Strategy 2022-2025. 
  • Lead the delivery of new Shift Foundation prototypes and initiatives alongside young women.

Initially, this is a fixed term 12 month contract. The role remuneration will reflect the successful candidate’s skills and experience within the salary band of $52,000 – $62,400 p/a. We are open to discussing flexibility in the ‘workplace’ and what this looks like for you. We welcome applications from people with non-traditional experience (volunteering or informal settings) and from minority backgrounds and genders.
