The Department of Forestry (DOF) is responsible for the management of the forestry sector throughout Vanuatu. DOF’s goal is to ensure forest resources are sustainably managed; deforested areas are rehabilitated; they contribute profitably to income generation, employment opportunities, and social wellbeing for all people in Vanuatu; and that they embrace climate change mitigation.
This assignment is specifically with DOF in Malampa which is located within the Lakatoro Agriculture station. The Regional Forestry Officer for the Northern Region has identified current challenges hindering the work of DOF in the Northern Region in achieving the organisations overall goal. As such, DOF Malampa is looking for a skilled volunteer to support staff to competently operate the organisation’s central database; produce and register legal forestry associations; create and administer management plans for Malampa conservation areas; and secure operational donor funding.
A core aspect of this assignment is providing advice and guidance to increase understanding of organisational and compliance requirements. On a day-to-day basis you will work with the DOF Malampa employees to build their capacity in general office management and DOF administrative systems including the database. As the ideal candidate for this role, you are able to provide mentoring, coaching, training and support.
Experience required for this assignment:
– Tertiary level degree and / or significant experience in Forestry or a related field such as environment or agriculture studies
– Experience in working with database systems to record, collate and analyse information and produce reports
– Experience working with Community Based Organizations / Civil Society Organizations
– Experience with community forestry conservation and / or environment programs
– Experience with project proposal and funding submission writing
