Victims of crime and trauma need safety, healing, justice and restitution. Victim Support assists about 35,000 victims nationally throughout the year. They are a not-for-profit and independently run but are housed in NZ Police offices throughout the country. They are a dedicated core staff who are supported by hard working volunteers. They provide support in ways that restores mana, belonging and well-being.
This role focuses on the financial support provided for victims of crime participating in court related activities and may include travel, accommodation and counselling services. This support is provided through the Victim Support Scheme (VAS). The number of victims assisted through this scheme is 8,000 to 9,000 per annum.
This role manages the application processes by reviewing applications for funding and ensuring they are consistent within the criteria, liaising with colleagues nationally when additional information is required, preparing the payments and managing the records. Other responsibilities include checking, collating, coding the invoices, reviewing the applications for counselling services and managing the related database and generally promoting understanding of the VAS scheme throughout the organisation.
This is not considered full time and additional responsibilities include assisting the audit functions relating to the VAS scheme, providing payroll assistance and support of other corporate service activities.
Effective and professional communication skills are required for this role, good skills with databases and/or Excel preferably with accounts, problem solving and analytical skills and good pragmatism.
