Part-Time Finance & Administration Manager

Job Description

Location: Work from home
Employment Status: Part-time
Hours of Work: 10-20 hours per week, regular weekday daytime hours by agreement. Extra hours will be required at financial year-end
Remuneration: $30-$40 per hour depending on level of experience

 The Steiner Education Development Trust (SEDT—www.sedt.co.nz) is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2014 to manage and develop the New Zealand Certificate of Steiner Education (CSE), a unique secondary qualification designed for Steiner high school students in New Zealand and overseas. We are a small but passionate team and now seek to recruit a part time Finance and Administration Manager due to the retirement of the incumbent. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all invoices are entered correctly into Xero, with supporting documentation
  • Monthly payment of invoices
  • Administer payroll for a small team of SEDT’s permanent employees
  • Monitor cashflow and recommend courses of action
  • Manage SEDT’s core banking relationship
  • Create donor receipts at end of financial year or as funds are received
  • Analyse and identify trends in spending, areas for cost savings and ways to improve SEDT’s financial operation
  • File GST returns with IRD
  • Calculate and administer expenses and mileage payments
  • Prepare regular financial reports and commentary on financial statements for the quarterly Board meetings in conjunction with the General Manager
  • Work with General Manager to prepare annual and long-term budgets
  • Prepare end of year accounts and supporting reconciliations.
  • File annual tax return with the IRD
  • File annual return on the NZ Charities Commission portal
  • Provide information as required to the Board and the General Manager
  • Ensure invoices and receipts are submitted in a timely manner
  • Work effectively as part of the geographically dispersed SEDT shared services team
  • Attend quarterly SEDT Board meetings and staff meetings as required

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Accounting qualification preferred but not essential
  • 6+ years financial administration and management experience
  • Experience and competent with Xero
  • Competent in XLS spreadsheet construction, financial projections and analysis
  • Self-motivated, professional, dependable & adaptable
  • Attention to detail with good time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team
  • Friendly, positive and supportive
  • Preferably some knowledge and experience with Steiner education and philosophies
  • Has empathy with the SEDT mission
