Board position Executive Advisor Tangata Māori
Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a vibrant and expanding national organisation working to make Aotearoa a safer place for rainbow young people.
InsideOUT Kōaro currently has one Executive Advisor Tangata Māori role (for someone over the age of 27) on the Board of Trustees vacant.
The Executive Advisor Tangata Māori role, alongside with our dedicated youth tangata Māori positions, are part of our ongoing commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Read the information below to see if it’s right for you! You can learn about who is currently on our governance board at http://insideout.org.nz/about/who/board/.
The Board of Trustees of InsideOUT Kōaro takes care of the big picture planning – overseeing our vision, setting our strategy, making governance-based decisions, receiving reports on projects, contributing to financial planning, making decisions around employment, and more.
InsideOUT Kōaro operates within a ‘for youth, by youth’ framework, and as such is composed of Youth Trustees aged between 18-27 filling the majority of the board positions, with four Executive Advisor positions aged 28 and older. Our Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer are all youth members.
Our four Executive Advisors provide guidance and knowledge to the Youth Trustees and the Managing Director. As well as the normal duties of Board members (attending meetings, making strategic and financial decisions, employing our staff), Executive Advisors act as tuākana to the youth trustees and provide the skill sets and experience that someone under the age of 28 may not have yet. Our Executive Advisors have often had previous experience governing organisations, and may bring skills like human resources, legal training, financial experience, and governance experience to the board table. A key role for Executive Advisors is to foster the youth-focused kaupapa of InsideOUT Kōaro by prioritising youth voices and decision-making.
Board roles are voluntary and generally entail 10-15 hours of contribution per month (including attending monthly meetings).
Ideally our new Executive Advisor Tangata Māori would have:
• an understanding of/connection to experiences of being takatāpui or Rainbow and Māori
• an understanding of the experiences of rainbow young people in Aotearoa New Zealand
• experience working on a team, committee or rōpū, particularly in a governance role
Other skills that would be helpful for our Board (optional) are:
• experience in strategic planning
• human resources and/or people management
• financial management and budgeting
• experience with fundraising, sponsorship and grants
We’re hoping to find people who are able to commit for at least two years to this role.
