Full-Time Crisis Support Worker

Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing  Lower Hutt, Wellington $60,000 per annum

Established in 1982, Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH) provides free 24/7 crisis support and counselling services for anyone of any age, gender, ethnicity or sexuality affected by sexual abuse, rape or sexual harm. HV SASH supports Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt communities.    

Reporting to the Crisis Support Manager, and as a key member of the Crisis Support team, you will be responsible for providing specialist crisis support, advocacy services for victims and family/whanau affected by sexual abuse, rape or sexual harm.

Key responsibilities:

  • Meeting and communicating with victims and family/whanau, providing relevant information and options to help them make informed choices
  • Supporting victims at forensic medical examinations, police reporting processes, victim impact statements
  • Assisting victims and family/whanau at court trials
  • Referring victims to other services or government departments as required
  • Working closely with key agencies such as Police, Oranga Tamariki, GPs, DHB, Victim Support, refuges, etc

This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday based in Waterloo, Lower Hutt. HV SASH are offering ongoing professional development, monthly paid clinical supervision, mobile phone and laptop. Free off-street parking is also available.

Person Profile:

  • Experience working in a frontline customer service or client facing role
  • Experience working in healthcare, mental health, disability services, crisis support would be highly advantageous
  • An effective communicator with well-developed written, verbal and listening skills
  • Strong relational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a culturally responsive manner and relate to a diverse range of people from all walks of life and backgrounds
  • Able to work effectively under pressure in a challenging environment
  • Good self-care and self-awareness skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute as part of wider team
  • Highly intuitive and sensitive to others needs
  • A commitment and willingness to learn
  • Have an open, respectful and empathetic manner
  • Ability to remain professional, confidential and impartial at all times
  • Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, email, database)
  • Experience working with people affected sexual abuse or rape sexual harm would be highly advantageous but not essential
  • Must have a full and clean NZ Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable car
