Voluntary Crisis Line Volunteers
About Women’s Refuge
Hutt City Women’s Refuge (HCWR) is part of a National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges working at the coal face to liberate women, children, families and whānau from all forms of violence. This is achieved through providing quality services and social commentary around family violence, as well as working collaboratively with third party agencies and the wider community.
About the role
The Crisis Line exists so that women who are in crisis and need immediate refuge can escape to a safe space, quickly. It is staffed 24/7 – by our Advocates during business hours and by our highly valued volunteers after hours and over the weekend. Calls will come from women who need help and are in difficult situations but are not urgent. We will provide you with the necessary training to ensure you’re able to tell the difference.
Who are you?
It is essential our volunteers are able to make hard choices that align to the use of the SafeHouse. It is strictly for those who are in life threatening situations and need to be immediately evacuated, which is where your critical thinking skills will come into play. You will need:
• The ability to make sound judgement calls on the spot
• Clear communication skills
• A full and clean drivers’ licence and access to a car when you’re on shift
• To pass a Police clearance
• The resilience and strength to deal with the confronting situations you’ll be dealing with
We are ideally looking for someone to cover 3 to 4 shifts per month. You will need to take the call wherever you and be ready to drive to meet the client at pre-determined locations.
• Monday – Friday: 5 pm – 9 am
• Saturday & Sunday: 9 am – 5 pm and 5 pm – 9 am
If you tick all of the above and make a significance difference to those in need please get in touch today.
