Full-Time Climate Action Educator

Sustainability Trust  Wellington City, Wellington $55,000 - 60,000

Job Description

  • Permanent, full-time 37.5 hours per week 
  • Monday – Friday with regular Saturday work (twice monthly, Time in Lieu offered) OR Tuesday through to Saturday 
  • National travel required and overnight stays away around once or twice a month.

An exciting opportunity has come up in our small education team as our Climate Action Educator. You could be creating social and environmental impact whilst working for Wellington’s leading sustainability social enterprise (that’s us btw). 

This role will be delivering sustainability and zero-waste orientated workshops, building urban agriculture partnerships, and ensuring our funding contracts are delivered. You’ll also coordinate our popular monthly street clean-ups and do basic waste audits.  

We need an experienced educator who knows how to inspire and motivate a wide range of learners. It should go without saying that you’ll be passionate about sustainability. You will have some lived experience in sustainability practice because you’ll need to be able to relate to people from all walks of life, all ages and stages on their sustainability journey.  

Who are you?    

You might have the following:   

  • High level of verbal and written communication.  
  • Ability to develop a range of communications materials to support internal and external audiences. 
  • Knowledge in urban agriculture, sustainability, and zero waste/circular economy. 
  • A qualification/s in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Te Ao Māori, Premaculture, or related field would be useful
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to converse, develop and maintain positive meaningful relationships with other community organisations, council staff, schools and businesses.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Project management including proven experience in planning and delivering within budgets.
  • Strong computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office suite, Checkfront, Survey Monkey, MailChimp, Salesforce)  
  • Ability to use basic Te Reo Māori in the delivery of your programmes and a commitment to ongoing learning in this area including Treaty training.
  • Self-directed as needed, motivated and motivational.
  • Experience with volunteer management.

      The starting salary will be in the range of $55-60,000 full-time salary depending on qualifications and experience.
