Job Description

ECPAT NZ (Child Alert) is a small dynamic charitable organisation focused on ending commercial exploitation of children. The Board is active in supporting the operational management of the organisation, particularly in the areas of fundraising and advocacy, and provides expertise in areas including cultural responsiveness; financial management; branding and marketing; research; and digital strategy. We are currently seeking a treasurer and up to three additional Board members with skills in these areas.

The ECPAT board is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end it:
1. Strategises how the organization will carry out its mission through long and short-range planning
2. Thinks deeply and asks searching and generative questions to make sure that ECPAT NZ is doing the right work, in the right way, for the right reasons to get the best impact for children.
3. Plans and adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight
4. Recruits, orients, and develops board members
5. Hires, challenges, supports, monitors and evaluates the performance of the director
6. Evaluates its performance and overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission
7. Establishes policies for the effective management of the organization

• Understand, promote and advocate for the organization’s mission and strategy
• Be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations
• Attend board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
• Offer occasional operational support to the ECPAT team in areas of expertise
• Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings
• Participate in fund raising activities, funding application presentations and special events
• Keep current on Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) issues and developments in the sociopolitical environment that ECPAT NZ (Child Alert) operates
• Strictly adhere to conflict of interest policies
• Strictly adhere to confidentiality policies

Time Demands (approximate):
• Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings (8 monthly board meetings by Zoom approximately 40 minutes in length, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, and 3 face to face meetings per year – 3- 5 hours held on an evening or weekend)
• Attend a fair share of events and meetings to support and advocate for the organisation
• Attend new board member orientation and training
