Voluntary Volunteer Playgroup Assistant
We are looking for volunteers to be part of the team to work with mums and young children 0-5 years old, in a multicultural playgroup setting in Lynfield, Auckland.
Our playgroups provide a supportive and inclusive environment where new kiwi families from refugee and migrant backgrounds can have fun playing and learning together, an opportunity for mothers to improve their English and make new friends, to become more connected with their local community and to help their children to become more school-ready.
Free English classes are available for the mothers during the playgroup session, while our team of volunteers help run children’s activities such as painting, playdough, reading, music etc.
Volunteers with empathy towards refugee and migrant families would be most suitable. In addition volunteers need to be extremely reliable, have good initiative and be culturally sensitive.
Previous experience working with children is preferred. The ability to speak other languages is an added advantage.
Criminal background and reference checks are a prerequisite.
The playgroups take place only during school terms. There are 3 playgroup sessions during the week, each session is from 9.30am to midday. Volunteers need to be available for at least 2 sessions each week.
Minimum three months commitment to the role is required.
